Conrad is a spry, spirited and independent 90 years of age. Born and raised in Winsted, Conrad graduated from The Gilbert School in 1950 and chose to join the service in early 1951 because, as he says, “they had a little war going on“ – namely the Korean War. Conrad served almost exactly one year in Korea. He also saw many other places including multiple trips to Japan and bases all
over the Unit-ed States, including Langley Air Force Base in Virginia,
before his discharge in1955. Conrad was assigned to the 510th Fighter
Bomber Squadron and had a very interesting and memorable job
– that of base photographer.
