House of Heroes Connecticut has gained approval to subdivide a Hamden property and construct a new commercial building to support its expanding home repair program for veterans.
The nonprofit has filed and passed inland wetlands commission approvals along with P&Z approvals with the town for the project at 555 Sherman Ave. The proposal will divide the existing 8.66-acre parcel to create a new building lot and construct a 3,080-square-foot warehouse with parking, utilities, landscaping and stormwater improvements.
Site plans prepared by Godfrey Hoffman Hodge LLC show the building fronting Old Hill Road with a surface parking lot, landscaped areas and a new driveway.
The building will be used exclusively by House of Heroes Connecticut to store construction materials, tools and donated supplies used in its no-cost home repair projects for military veterans and public safety veterans.
