ANNUAL REPORT 2025
MAKING A DIFFERENCE IN A DAY

Our 2025 Year of Service
House of Heroes Connecticut’s 2025 Year of Service was another one for the books. We doubled down on our commitment to serving those who served, serving more Veterans than ever, engaging more volunteers and new sponsors, and expanding our mission to provide one-day, no-cost home repairs focused on safety and accessibility to military and public safety Veterans (and their surviving spouses) in need.
Our 2025 numbers tell the story: We finished the year with a record 38 Veterans served; expanded our footprint to 76 Connecticut communities; engaged more than 300 new volunteers (including student volunteers); and enlisted the support of four new major Project Partners (Cirtec Medical, Hartford HealthCare, New England Financial Group and Triumph).
The 2025 Year of Service concluded with House of Heroes Connecticut having served 292 Veterans since our 2012 founding, positioning us to reach yet another milestone, the 300-Veterans-served plateau, in early 2026.
On the organizational health front, our supporters will be pleased to know that House of Heroes Connecticut finished the 2025 Year of Service in a strong financial position, enabling us to plan for future growth and to serve ever-more Veterans. Thanks to a foundation of consistently strong and successful fundraising efforts and prudent fiscal management, we are in the early stages of planning for a new storage facility that will allow us to properly house and secure our investments in vehicles, equipment and supplies.
All of these accomplishments are the result of the wonderful and generous support of numerous Project Partners, donors, suppliers, lay volunteers, skilled craftsmen who donate their time and talent, and additional supporters. We thank you all for your generosity and support and look forward to many more years of Making a Difference in a Day for those who served.

Veteran Story
US Marine Veteran
Kenneth Strickland
Get to Know Kenneth
Born in Middletown in 1946, Kenneth grew up in East Hampton. in 1969 at age 21 he joined the Marines. Why the Marines? “Because I’m tough” says Kenneth. As a combat engineer, Kenneth served overseas in Okinawa, Japan, and says of his military assignments “you name it, I did it.” But now Ken needed help of his own. His decks were in dire need of repair and his crumbling 52ft staircase to the road had deteriorated so badly you could not walk down it. With the support of Munger Construction and the sponsorship of The Inspired kitchen in Glastonbury, HOH made his home safe again and gave him access to get out of his home.

Veteran Story
US Army Veteran
Shalanda Wright
Get to Know Shalanda
Shalanda has had a challenging but rewarding life, beginning with growing up fast in a single-parent household in New Haven, sometimes witnessing abuse within the home where she cared for both herself and her brother. Shalanda persevered, kept her eyes on the prize and entered the Army in 2001 after graduating from Eli Whitney Technical High School. Shalanda had big dreams and viewed the military as her opportunity to ultimately further her education.
Shalanda served three years on active duty, and another five years in the Reserve, including 11 months in Kuwait during the Iraq Campaign, where she was a Logistics Specialist. Her work supported troops heading into the war zone in Iraq. Now it was our turn to support this deserving veteran. Shalanda needed new glass in her windows and her deck repaired. With the sponsorship of Liberty Bank and their team of hardworking volunteers we got the job completed. She is forever grateful for the support that HOH was able to give!
