HOHCT 2021 Project Schedule, Hopeful for Strong Rebound Following 2020 Year Impacted by COVID-19

Eight 2021 Work Weekends Planned Beginning April 17

House of Heroes Connecticut, the non-profit organization dedicated

to honoring the service and sacrifice of Connecticut veterans in need with one-day home repairs, will

kick-off its 2021 project season with two work weekends in April, optimistic for a return to some

semblance of normalcy following a 2020 year impacted by COVID-19.

The 2021 project year will begin Saturday, April 17, with three Hamden projects supported by student

volunteers from Quinnipiac University. Lay volunteers are currently being sought to support these

projects; to volunteer, please e-mail Executive Director Carol May at carol@houseofheroesct.org. An

additional April project day is planned for Saturday, April 24, supported by Project Partner the

Glastonbury Rotary Club, assisting an East Hartford Army/Navy couple in need.

In total, House of Heroes Connecticut (HOHCT) is planning for eight project days in 2021 assisting a

minimum of 17 military or public safety veterans (or surviving spouses). Additional project dates are

slated for: Saturday, May 29 (Memorial Day Weekend); Saturday, June 26; Saturday, August 28;

Saturday, September 25; Saturday, October 16 and Saturday, November 6 (Veterans Day Weekend).

Project dates, as well as the total number of veterans and communities served, are subject to change.

Additional projects may also be added to the schedule.

“We are anxious to get going in April, fulfilling our mission and serving those who served after a very

difficult 2020 year,” said HOHCT Executive Director Carol May, who added that COVID-19 safety

precautions including masking and social distancing will remain in effect at all projects subject to change

depending on recommended guidelines. “We are hopeful that by year’s end, COVID-19 will be largely

behind us and we will have resumed a normal level of service to the veterans who need us so much.”

In addition to the Glastonbury Rotary Club and Quinnipiac University, the list of HOHCT’s 2021 Project

Partners includes Sikorsky, a Lockheed Martin Company; PCX Aerosystems; and Johnson Brunetti.

Project Partnerships, which include a rewarding day of community service for employees/members/volunteers

and widespread media exposure, are available for the 2021 season.
