Memorial Day Weekend Project 115th

Today we completed our 115th project in East Berlin, CT. Today's honoree is Specialist 2nd Class (SP5) Bruce Bodley who served in the U.S Army during 1968-1971 and the U.S Army Reserve from 1971-1974. Bruce is a New Britain native who grew up on Main Street in East Berlin, not far down the road from this very house, Bruce was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1968 not long after graduating from Berlin High School. But Bruce did not have to be drafted to serve his country, even at the height of the Vietnam War; he was inspired to serve by his father, a World War II veteran who fought in the European Theater.

When not working, Bruce enjoyed fishing and has been a member of the Silver City Fishing Club for more than 40 years, earning Connecticut Bass Federation titles along the way. But he is perhaps best known for his dedicated service to the Lions Club, including his role as superintendent of the sheep and swine building at the historic Berlin Fair for 30 years.

On behalf of House of Heroes, our wonderful volunteers and a grateful nation,We commend you, Bruce Bodley, and thank you for your service to our country.
